Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 is a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her most well-known accomplishments are her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
